Public hospital referrals

Your Ropata Health doctor can organise and manage public hospital referrals.

If your doctor refers you for an urgent appointment, you should hear from the clinician or organisation you’ve been referred to within two weeks.  Your doctor should advise you of the procedure at time of appointment.

If you’ve been referred for an appointment and the appointment isn’t urgent, then you should hear from the clinician or organisation you’ve been referred to within six to eight weeks.

If you don’t hear from the clinician or organisation within these timeframes, please let us know and we’ll follow up on your referral.  In private hospitals/specialists, the patient usually makes the appointment themselves and they aren’t subject to the same time frames.

If you are worried, you can contact us to ask for your results from four working days after you took your test.  If you do phone for your results, we’ll first ask you some basic security questions to make sure we’re giving the results to the right person.
